We fish off of a custom modified aluminum boat, which is equipped with a poling platform, a large unobstructed
front deck, and modern electronic equipment to ensure a safe, fun, and productive day on the water. This boat layout was thoughtfully
designed to take a captain and two anglers into the shallowest water possible, past the crowds. To get them past where the other
guys can’t reach. We fish alone a lot of days because this boat can reach water others can’t! It also lets us fish longer
as we can catch the last of a productive tide and still have enough water to get out without the fear of being “locked” into a hole
by the tide.
As far as tackle is concerned, salt water is a harsh environment with big, strong fish that can
destroy lesser tackle. All tackle at Boykin Rod & Gun is high quality and built to take the abuse. Currently most
of our spinning reels are Shimano Stradics (2500 and 4000 series) though we have been testing some of the high end Pfluger with good
success. We also use some light bait casting equipment (Shimano and Abu Garcia). The fly fishing equipment is mostly Orvis
and StCroix. All flies are hand tied by your captain and are of the highest quality, custom built for the areas that we fish.
We use a lot of deceivers, rockets, shrimp, spoon flies, and clousers. Each one tied to imitate the bait that we see in
the backwaters of
